The aim of the job is to give assistance required by the employer, a parent of a young man (23 years) with learning difficulties and autism.
He has very little language and communicates primarily through signing.
He can walk but does require support at times for balance.
He loves being out and about to see waterfalls, waves, trees blowing in the wind, taxis and cars or stay at home reading books and watching YouTube of same.
He requires personal support for toileting, preparing meals, getting washed/dressed/ready for bed and keeping safe when out and about.
A Personal Assistant is required to give support to our son to help him with the activities he enjoys and live his life independently.
We require a PA who has the following attributes:
- good communication and listening skills
- understanding of person-centred working
- good organisation/time management skills
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Flexible and responsible
- Non-judgmental
- Ability to recognise work/personal boundaries
- Sensitive & approachable
The job would be ideally suited for some interested in Speech and language, occupational health, autism and person-centred care. If you like waterfalls, that will also help!
Access to a car is not essential but would be helpful.
The Post
Rate of Pay: £15 /hour
The hours will be flexible agreed mutually in advance but will typically be mid/late pm, evenings and weekends. Anticipated up to 20 hours a month.
